Remember to check your calendars for details of your new waste collection arrangements which started this month – including three weekly garden waste collections.
As well as the changes to green waste collections, some people in Knowsley now also have a different collection day.
Packs have been distributed to every household in the borough explaining the reasons for the change. It includes a new waste collection calendar with your new collection dates from March 2017 to February 2018.
Maroon and grey bins will still be collected fortnightly
There is no change to the frequency of Knowsley’s general waste (maroon bin) and recycling (grey bin) collections which continue to be provided on a fortnightly basis.
Why are these changes happening?
Knowsley Council’s funding from central government has been drastically cut and the council faces the challenge of making a further £16.8 million of savings by 2020 – in addition to the £86 million already saved since 2010.
Given the scale of these cuts, and the growth in new homes across the borough which has increased pressure on waste collection services, the council has agreed the change to the green waste service.
Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said:
“We remain committed to providing residents with a garden waste collection service and this change in frequency will enable us to continue to offer this valuable service free of charge, while responding to the additional demands placed on the waste collection service as a whole.”
Further details about your new waste collections can also be found on the council’s website.
