An innovative programme of activities for older people is coming to Knowsley’s libraries.
Words of Wisdom, delivered by Collective Encounters, provides free arts and creative activities for people aged over 65, including creative writing, storytelling and drawing.
They provide a great opportunity for residents to socialise and make new friends whilst carrying out fun activities, or just a cup of tea and a cake. The programme is also suitable for residents with dementia as research has showed that creative activity can slow down the effects of dementia.
The programme supports Knowsley Better Together, bringing people and organisations together for the benefit of Knowsley and its residents.
Words of Wisdom is being delivered thanks to a successful bid Knowsley Council submitted to the Arts Council for its Great Emerging Marvellous Places initiative – aiming to promote libraries as a great community venue to meet, learn, socialise as well as accessing books and PCs. Funding has been secured to deliver a range of arts and cultural activities in the borough’s libraries over the next two years.
Words of Wisdom takes place from 1pm to 3pm on the following dates:
Monday 11 June 2018 and Monday 18 June 2018
Monday 25 June 2018 and Monday 2 July 2018
Monday 16 July 2018 and Monday 23 July 2018
Tuesday 11 September 2018 and Tuesday 18 September 2018
Stockbridge Village Library
Tuesday 25 September 2018 and Tuesday 2 October 2018
Councillor Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “This is a great opportunity for our residents to try something new, learn a new skill and meet new people. Words of Wisdom is just one programme we will be delivering in our libraries and I look forward to further events and initiatives being arranged over the coming months as part of our Great Emerging Marvellous Places initiative.”
Annette Burghes, Executive Director at Collective Encounters, added “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Council’s Culture Services and Library staff to deliver these Words of Wisdom workshops for older people in Knowsley. The workshops are a great way for older people to get involved in some creative activity whilst meeting people and having fun. There’s no excuse not to come down, see what it’s all about and join in.”
