Knowsley has secured new funding to help nurseries in the borough deliver 30 hours free childcare places as the number of children eligible increases.
Knowsley Council has secured over £39,000 funding to help them to support the borough’s childcare providers to meet the increase in demand for 30 hours free childcare places in the 2018 summer and autumn term as more children turn three and become eligible.
All three and four-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare each week and from September 2017 some working parents became entitled to up to 30 hours of free childcare a week.
The additional funding, from a successful Delivery Support Fund bid to the Department for Education, will be used for further business support for providers, improvements to IT systems and support for families with children with special educational needs and disabilities to take up 30 hours childcare.
Cllr Joan Lilly, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “This is fantastic news that we have been able to secure Government funding and ensure our childcare providers will be better equipped to maintain our excellent nursery and pre-school provision across the borough. I’m also delighted we will be better able to support eligible families with children with special educational needs and disabilities to take up their 30 hours.”
How many free hours of childcare am I entitled to?
All three and four-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare each week and some working parents may now also be entitled to even more hours of free childcare.
If you are eligible, you can take up to 1,140 hours flexibly throughout the year, in a school, academy or with a registered childcare provider, including childminders. The hours can also be split across more than one provider.
