International Women’s Day takes place on Thursday, 8 March 2018. It is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political and economic to the cultural and social achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Dating back to 1908, many people celebrate the day by wearing purple ribbons, with events taking place across the country and the world to celebrate the achievements of women.
Internationally, purple is a colour for symbolising women and on Thursday, 8 March 2018, Greystone footbridge in Knowsley will be illuminated in purple.
We all know of inspirational women here in Knowsley from anti-racism campaigner Gee Walker through to athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, actress Sue Johnston and T’Pau singer Carol Decker. Who would you add to this list?
