If you have a teenager who is off to a music festival this summer, or a son or daughter heading off to Uni next term – are they protected against measles?
Following a recent rise in new measles cases, linked to young people attending music festivals and other large gatherings, Public Health in Knowsley is advising anyone who may have missed out on their vaccinations growing up to make sure they are protected against this nasty condition.
How can I check if I’m vaccinated against measles?
Teenagers and young people can check with their GP to find out if they’ve had their full course of MMR immunisations.
If not – it’s not too late to have them now and protect yourself from this infectious disease.
How serious is measles?
Measles can be more severe in teenagers and adults, with some of the recent cases needing hospital treatment. People are urged to be aware of the symptoms of measles, such as a high fever and rash, and not to attend festivals if they are unwell.
