“Since the early hours of Sunday 4th Dec, immediately following notification of the fire on site, the senior management team at REMONDIS UK has been working around the clock to manage and mitigate the impact of the situation on the local community and environment.
“Due to the nature of the site and the location of the fire, it has been necessary to class the area as a demolition site and this means that Remondis and the fire crews must abide by Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive to ensure the continued safety of the demolition team, firefighters and Remondis personnel.
“Within the context of adhering to those health and safety obligations, REMONDIS UK, the demolition crew and the fire teams are working as quickly as possible to allow the fire to be extinguished as quickly as possible. A plan has been agreed among all parties and is being followed, with further demolition work due to take place this afternoon to allow the fire crew additional access to the site. Ongoing risk assessments are taking place to ensure the safety of all personnel on site.
“REMONDIS UK continues to be in communication with the Environment Agency, Public Health England, the Health and Safety Executive, the fire services and the local council, working together to bring this to a close. In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and patience while we ensure that this is dealt with properly to manage and mitigate the impact on the environment and local community.
